Ooops! LUKE ALBOA is DJing at the Jam Cellar tonight

Tuesday, November 8th, 2011
This Week, DJ LUKE ALBAO

Sorry guys, I looked at the wrong part of our DJ google document calendar thingy, and made a mistake. Tonight's DJ is Luke Albao, whose last name allows for no puns whatsoever.

But his music is stellar.

This Week, DJ Glenn Scales

One of our large…scale…DJs, Glenn plays a range of swing music and sometimes even tips the…scales…a bit by playing music not heard on the Jam Cellar dance floor before. Um, I can't think of any more "scale" puns, but make sure to let him know of any I didn't cover when you're at the Jam Cellar tonight. I'm sure he hasn't heard them yet.

Beginning Lindy Hop Basics Series Week 2 of 6!

Tonight is your last chance to hop into the entire series, however, if you missed the first week, you MUST know basic 6-count tripe-step footwork. And, it's the gift that keeps on giving: Once you pay for the series, you can take it as many times as you'd like in the future, for free.

Amplifying Your Awesomeness Intermediate Lindy Hop series starts THIS WEEK!

Tonight is your last chance to hop into the entire series for a reduced rate. If you just finished the beginner series, or the "Building Your Badassness" Series, then you're ready for this! This course will cover new moves, Charleston patterns, girl and guy styling, and much more! It's basically 6 more weeks of material not covered in the Building Your Badassness other series. Bring good shoes and your sense of childlike wonder.

Wanna Volunteer?

Enjoy the Jam Cellar but would also like to get a sense of helping your community out of it? Or perhaps you're strapped for cash and would like to dance without paying? We accept either as part of our Elite Jam Cellar Swat Volunteer Navy Seal Crack Volunteer Team. (Or EJCSVNSCVT for short.) (Yes, we know there are two "volunteers" in there. That's how much we like volunteering.) Email us at huh@thejamcellar.com for more info. Benefits include: Holiday parties for our long-standing volunteers, and we'll also be happy to write references to your future employers saying things like "shows ambition" and "her only flaw is she works too hard sometimes." Oh, and all the Flavor Ice you can eat.

THE JAM CELLAR COMMUNITY BOARD:

Jam Cellar Town Meeting. Usually in the past, we like to touch base with our community and find out what you guys are thinking. However, that tends to cut into some much-loved dance time. So for this meeting, we're going to take it to paper. I'd like to make a call out to all our patrons to write a comment for our comment box the next time you come to Jam Cellar. Want us to do more silly contests? Want us to hire that one favorite DJ of yours more? Want us to offer more polka in our classes? Whatever you'd like to get more (or less of) out of your Jam Cellar experience, we'd like to hear about it. For the New Year we're going to make a few changes to the way we do things, and some of those changes could be your idea. We've had our comment box for roughly a year now, and it's used now more to hold up flavor ice than it is for comments. Though maybe that's just a very abstract way of leaving a comment, and we keep missing it. If so, please explain the flavor-ice comment on a comment card you add into the box along with the flavor ice.

Film Shoot. You can be in a movie! And then be able to start conversations like "When I was at this one shoot- film shoot, I mean- I dance in films, you see……" Here's the info: 4&9 Productions is seeking dance extras for a film shoot on Saturday, November 12, from 12-5PM. There will be a meeting on Monday November 7, at 7:00PM. (That was last night. Hope you didn't miss it.) Intermediate Skill Level required for this shoot. For further information, please register at http://eepurl.com/fwdC6 and we will provide some follow-up information.

The DC Swing eXperience. They're having a great new event in DC, and everyone should stop by whether for workshops, or just a great night of dancing; they'll have lots of premium international instructors. Here's the info: The DC Swing eXperience, November 17-20th, 2011 @ Hyatt Regency – Reston, VA. www.dcswingexperience.com. Lindy Hop workshops with:
Max Pitruzzella & Annie Trudeau,
Michael Seguin & Nina Gilkenson,

and many others, Fun Lindy Hop contests: Strictly Lindy (3 levels), Jack & Jill Lindy (3 levels), Lindy Hop party with DJ Jerry Almonte & Friends Friday & Saturday nights. This weekend unites 3 related Swing Dance styles: Lindy Hop, West Coast Swing & Shag. 3 adjacent ballrooms for night time dancing and over 40 workshops are included with a weekend pass. Jam Cellar Subject!

Monday, September 12th, 2011
This week, DJ PAUL ROTH

He will move you. And also, of course, this week is the World Famous Jam Cellar Clothing Swap! This means you clean out your closet half an hour before coming to the Jam Cellar, and put the clothes you don't want in a bag, which you bring to the Jam Cellar. Then you take other people's clothes home with you. It starts in the downstairs room at 9 p.m., after the free beginner lesson. And if you're a 6'2 guy, I've got some duds for you. Both swing and normal clothes welcome.

Room of Requirement: Aerials and Fast Dancing! 9 p.m. Tomorrow!

Most people don't have much of a chance to practice certain parts of their dancing. However, at the Jam Cellar, intermediate and advanced dancers are together all night long. So, we thought, why not give them a chance to work on their dancing with a few teachers around to help out? Tonight in the Room of Requirement, Jason, Meg, and perhaps a few special guests will help everyone out with airsteps or fast dancing. This means, for this week's aerials and fast dance session, they are not there to teach, they are there to help spot, offer some tips, or lead fun activities. It'd be great if you could bring a partner along!

Special Series: Learn THRILLER! and perform it twice at the end of October!

ANYONE who wants will have the opportunity to learn the Thriller Choreography at the Jam Cellar and then perform it TWICE, beginning Sept 27th!
